Switching to FeedBlitz And A Little Instagram

Hey loves!  After the fiasco with FeedBurner, and all signs pointing to it's cancellation, I decided to switch over to FeedBlitz.  If you are an email subscriber, you should be all set.  If you are a RSS feed subscriber, please resubscribe to my new feed.  You can do so by clicking the feed icon to the right.

I am so in love with my Vitamix.  If you follow me on twitter you've probably picked up on that little piece of information.  In the past couple days I have made....

delicious and fresh homemade whole wheat bread and...

...piping hot minestrone soup made from whole foods.

Umm..drool!  Is there anything this machine can't do?  I swear my Vitamix is hands down the best investment I have ever made.

It's officially fall so obviously my instagram is full of pumpkin stuff like....

...this delicious smelling pumpkin candle from Target.  It was only $10.  Go now!

Last night I indulged myself in my pumpkin mask from a previous Friday Favorite, Jaqua.  I wanted to eat my face it smells that good.

All while wearing my Olympia Beer tee of course.

I have a serious addiction, and I don't even care.  I could have much more dangerous addictions.  I'm sure my family is thankful my addiction happens to be a tasty one!

Don't forget to re-subscribe with the new feed link!!!

Cool Dad Sends Son's Fave Toy Train To Space!

Have you guys seen this YouTube video?  It brings the warm fuzzies to your heart.

How Ron Fugelseth came up with the idea to send and record his son's favorite train to space is beyond me.  It is hands down the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.

Check it out!

P.S. Feedburner finally is back up and my RSS subscribers are back on track.  Thank you to all my lovely readers that emailed me :)

Feed Vent

Has anyone had anyone issues with feedburner?  Since September 18th it says I have 0 subscribers.

If you guys are RSS subscribers can you see this?  What about my email subscribers?

I'm so bummed :(  I checked out the message boards, and it appears I'm not the only one this has happened to.  I'm so frustrated and I don't want to post if most of my subscribers can't even see it.

If anyone knows what to do let me know.  This lady needs help!

Cool Ranch Chicken Flatbread

Back in my hometown of Olympia, WA I loved going to all the local pizza spots.  Oldschool Pizzeria and Vics had the best slices in town.  For my favorite pie, I hit up Brewery City Pizza for their Cool Ranch Chicken pizza.  I mean come on...ranch, bacon, and chicken topped off with lettuce and tomatoes.  Where can you go wrong?  Besides, everything is better with bacon.  Have you noticed this is my second recipe in a row with bacon?  I may or may not have been eating some everyday.  My son loves a slice for breakfast, and making just one doesn't make sense so I make one for myself too.  You call it excuses I call it opportunity.

I have been missing home so much that I decided to recreate one of my favorite pizzas into a flatbread.  Now if I can figure out how to recreate Bonsai Wok Teriyaki's salad dressing.  Oly friends know exactly what I'm talking about.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ball of pizza dough (I used store bought this time)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/3 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella/provolone blend
  • 1 cup lettuce, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees with baking sheet (I used the stoneware shown)
  2. Evenly roll dough into desired rectangular shape on a floured surface
  3. When oven is preheated, pull baking sheet out and place dough on it
  4. Pour ranch into the middle of the dough, evenly spreading to about 1/2" away from the edges
  5. Sprinkle the bacon and chicken evenly on top of ranch dressing
  6. Evenly add cheese on top
  7. Brush oil around edges
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes until crust is brown and cheese is bubbly
  9. Let cool for 2 minutes then slice
  10. Add lettuce and tomato to top of flatbread
  11. Enjoy!

The lettuce and tomato on top may make for a little mess, but it's well worth it.  I think this would be a great app for Football Sundays or whenever friends come over.  If you wanted to make this a pizza you surely can.  A slight adjustment of the amount of ingredients, and you will be all set.

Zucchini, Mushroom, and Bacon Frittata

Before we get started, I wanted to let you guys know I updated my recipe page to make it easier to look up recipes.  Hope you guys like it.  It is definitely much more organized.

I love breakfast for dinner.  In the case of the frittata, it could be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner depending what you pair it with.  For lunch or dinner I love to eat my frittatas with a salad.

Ingredients:

  • 3 strips bacon
  • 2 cups mushroom, sliced
  • 1 shallot
  • 2 zucchini, sliced
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tablespoon milk
  • pinch each salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese
  • chopped parsley, to garnish

Directions:

  1. Cook bacon in medium sized skillet till done
  2. Set aside bacon on a paper towel to drain (make sure to leave bacon grease in pan)
  3. Preheat broiler
  4. Turn temperature to medium and add mushroom and shallot to skillet
  5. Cook until mushrooms are sautéed and shallots are caramelized
  6. Add zucchini and cook for 3 minutes
  7. Meanwhile, beat the eggs, milk, and salt and pepper together until well combined
  8. Pour egg mixture into skillet and cook until the edges starts to set
  9. Gently pull back the edges all around the skillet so more eggs will fall into place - this will form a thicker "crust"
  10. When this edge is set, crumble bacon evenly over skillet
  11. Sprinkle tomato and cheese on top
  12. Place skillet in broiler for 8-10 minutes till done
  13. Once done, garnish with parsley and serve
This dish should serve 4-6 people.  If you want to lighten it up, use turkey bacon.  Or if you want a meatless meal, feel free to take out the bacon and use oil or butter instead.  I love how versatile frittata's can be.

As long as we're on the topic of cooking look at what I found at Costco.  I have yet to use it, but I needed a new grill pan since mine crapped out on me.  I have good feelings about this one.  Very Le Creuset-ish, right?  Last year, they had a dutch oven I waited to get marked down and it never did.  Lesson learned.

My coconut decided to make me some eggs and coffee in his kitchen.  How sweet!  I think I have a little Bobby Flay/Michael Symon on my hands.

Costume Deal!

Hey all!  Halloween is coming before we know it.  Personally, it is one of my favorite times of year.  I haven't dressed up the past couple years, but that's because I've been dressing up my coconut!  Who knows...maybe mama will dress up this year too.

I've been getting my coconut's costumes from buycostumes the past couple years because they have the greatest selection.  My son had the cutest little lion outfit his first Halloween.

It's never too early to shop for your Halloween costume.  Make sure to check out buycostumes.com before heading into the stores.  You know the last costume in your size has been tried on and re-stuffed into that bag.

Do you look forward to Halloween?  Have you thought about your costume?  What was your favorite?

Total side note: I'm going to King Richard's Faire today.  I hope I'm not the only one not in medieval apparel.  I've never been to one of these things before.  My inner geek is very very excited.

Friday Favorites: Pumpkin Everything

My name is Andrea and I'm a pumpkin-aholic.

If you are visiting from one of my favorite blogs, Eat Yourself Skinny, I want to thank you for stopping by!  I hope you guys enjoy yourself :)

I have an obsession with pumpkin everything.  Using the pumpkin spice coffee with the pumpkin spice coffee syrup is divine.  Is there really anything else that screams fall?

I'm so afraid there is going to be another canned pumpkin shortage that I've been buying it every time I go to the grocery store.  Is anyone with me?

My girlfriend and I rimmed our beer glasses with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice.  It made our pumpkin beer taste like dessert.  Bomb.

I have been looking for this bad boy in stores, but I can't seem to find it.  Has anyone had any luck?  Looks like this mama might have to create her own version....hmmm.

For me, nothing screams football season like pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks.  It seems to have become a tradition of mine since I became a football widow...err...umm...wife.

What are your must-have favorite pumpkin items?  You might find this shocking but I love me some pumpkin pie.

What fall foods are you obsessed with?

Fall Smoky Eye Tutorial

I decided to do something a little different today.  I've had a few people suggest that I should do YouTube makeup tutorials, and I thought I would give it a shot.  I made this look up as I went along.

One of my favorite things about fall time is how daring I can be with my make up.  I've always loved rocking a smoky eye, but it never really looks right in the summer months. This look is perfect for the nights you want to feel a little sultrier.

Before I filmed this video I prepped my face with moisturizer and primer.  I'm thinking of doing a flawless face tutorial.  Thoughts?

Could YouTube have picked out a more unattractive video still????  Grrrrr........

Phew! I didn't realize how much make up I used!  Surprisingly, the look only took me about twenty minutes.  Not bad, eh?  Please subscribe to my channel so I can choose my thumbnail!  This one is hideous!

On a side note completely unrelated - I am loving the new additions on Netflix.  Once Upon A Time (a.k.a. the best show on television), Revenge, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Varsity Blues, She's All That....I am one happy girl.

I've been having 90s teen movie night with one of my girlfriends almost every week.  So far we've watched "10 Things I Hate About You"and "Drive Me Crazy".  "She's All That" is up for this week.  What suggestions do you guys have?  I'm thinking "Save The Last Dance", but what about after that.  I need your input!  I know you ladies love these movies!

Till next time...I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Cloth Diapering: BumbleButts Guest Post

A few people may know that I went to school for fashion straight out of high school.  Life had other plans for me as well as friend I made while studying.  Sara just started a cloth diapering line that I know all the new mamas will love!  After you're done reading her post, please check out this sweetheart's etsy  shop!  Looking for a baby shower gift?  Perfect!  I'll let Sara tell you a little bit about her passion...

If anyone had told me while I was in college that my passion would one day be cloth diapers, I would not have believed it. I was a typical fashion design student, dreaming of New York City and breaking in to the fashion industry.  I loved sewing and designing, and I was going to be famous.

Well, as it so often happens, life had other plans. College graduation brought a return to my small home town, a less than fabulous waitressing career and my high school love. Oh, the glamour. I worked hard, sewed little and fell helplessly in love.

It's safe to say that having a child changes your life, and I was certainly no exception to the rule. Expecting my first child, I dove head first in to researching anything and everything baby. My son would have only the best. I always knew I would cloth diaper, having grown up using cotton pre-folds on my dolls. What I didn't know was how much cloth diapering had changed since the days of diaper pins and plastic pants.

Pocket diapers, all-in-ones, hybrids, all-in-twos, diaper covers, fitted diapers, pre-folds, my goodness, I was overwhelmed. After much deliberation, and review-reading on Amazon, I chose the style of pocket diapers. Pocket diapers have a waterproof shell with a stay-dry fabric liner, forming a pocket. Each diaper is stuffed with an absorbent insert. It sounded great. But when baby was born, diapering was not quite what I expected and learning how to be a mommy took priority.

I didn't fully commit to cloth diapering until baby was four months old. I'll admit, it's hard,. You have to be dedicated and I got a bunch of disposables at my shower. However, once I started, I was hooked! No more buying diapers! No more excess trash. Cloth diapering is actually a lot more simple than it sounds. All you need is a diaper sprayer, trash can and diaper pail liner. Simply spray the diaper clean and toss it in the pail. Every two days, dump the pail, liner and all, in the washing machine. Easy peasy.

So began my addiction to cloth diapering. And my love for sewing and designing reappeared with a new found confidence. I began sewing my own pocket diapers. I make cloth diapers for moms like me; on the go, economical, environmentally conscious, and still fashionable (at least I like to think so). My cloth diaper company, BumbleButts, is the direct result of love for design paired with the joy of motherhood, sewn together with passion and purpose.

Check out my designs, cloth diapering tips and my blog at www.bumblebutts.com and visit my etsy shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/BumbleButtsDiapers. Huge thanks to Andrea for featuring me on Glam Hungry Mom, I'm honored!

Homemade Almond Milk

You've probably noticed I have been M.I.A. lately.  The 31st was officially my last day of work.  Woohoo to finally being a stay-at-home mom again!  If you follow me on instagram (glamhungrymom), you may have seen a couple ideas I'm going to be cooking up in the kitchen.  Hopefully everything will taste as good in real life as it does in my head!  Isn't that always the goal?

I love making almond milk at home for my family.  It's great for my son, for coffee, smoothies, or how ever you use cow's milk in your everyday life.  I prefer making almond milk at home rather than buy it from the store.  I know exactly what is in it, and how fresh it is.  Another plus?  It is sooooo easy!  I can keep it unsweetened or make vanilla or chocolate flavors....naturally!  I prefer sweetening with dates for the extra fiber.  I make mine in my Vitamix, but you can easily make it with your Magic Bullet, Ninja or blender!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 3 pitted medjool dates (you can substitute with agave or honey if you like)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • optional: 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract for vanilla flavored or 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder for chocolate flavored
  • nut milk bag or cheesecloth

Directions:
      1.  First and foremost: Soak your almonds overnight in a bowl of water.  It helps bring your almonds            back to life, plumps them up, makes it easier to blend, and helps your body digest all the great nutrients.

      2.  Add the soaked (and plumped) almonds to your blender of choice
      3.  Pour 2 1/2 cups of water into blender, add dates (or sweetener of your choice) and cinnamon
      4.  If you want vanilla or chocolate flavored almond milk add the optional ingredients
      5.  Blend well
      6.  Place nut milk bag/cheesecloth in a bowl

      7.  Pour almond milk into the bowl lined with the nut milk bag/ cheesecloth
      8.  Slowly squeeze all the milk out until all that is left is the almond meal (Don't throw it away!  You can use it in pastries or other dishes!)
      9.  Pour yourself a fresh glass, add to a smoothie, your coffe, whatever you want!
      10.  Store the milk in an airtight container for 3-4 days (if it even lasts that long)

Enjoy!

P.S.  Now that it's almost fall time I am totally adding a dash of nutmeg to my almond milk :)
