When I moved to the Boston Area I found a few farms but not a lot of farmer's markets. I'm a huge supporter of shopping local and am always on the hunt for local spots. A couple weeks ago, one of my friends discovered the Winter Farmer's Market at Simpson Spring Co. in Easton, MA. We took our kids and fell in love! The first thing I loved was it was held indoors. It has been freezing in the Northeast! There are so many artisans selling their baked goods, chocolates, fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, seafood, chocolate, pasta, cheese, olive oil, pickles, crafts, and more!
Look at these yummy Anise cookies my friend bought!
I bought some Coconut Cake/Bread from the same vendor. She was the sweetest lady who makes some seriously yummy sweet treats.
I spotted some Bavarian Bierbrot Bread and knew I had to buy it. C'mon it has beer in it! It had to have tasted good. It didn't...it was freaking awesome. This was made from the Bridgewater Village Bakery. They bake without commercial yeasts and most of their breads are vegan friendly. I love how they use locally sourced, organic ingredients to produce their phenomenal goods.
Here are some goodies I bought last weekend:
Look at these sweets! Butterscotch coconut squares, vanilla fudge, and a PB and chocolate cupcake. The cupcake had peanut butter cups inside the cupcake. I die.
I spotted some artisan pasta from Fior D'Italia. Oh my word. I just made this tonight, and it hit the spot. I discovered my love for gnocchi in Italy, and this brought back great memories. You can tell they use premium, local ingredients made with love from the first bite. I could not get enough. I think I'm going to try the sweet potato gnocchi next and maybe some fresh pasta.
I had a hard time deciding between the Pirate Spread and Angelito from Narragansett Creamery. This week, I choose the Angelito because of the herb and garlic flavor. It has a cream cheese texture, but with a flavor grenade that detonates in your mouth. I'm thinking it would be great on sandwiches. If you can get your hands on Narragansett Creamy cheese you should. They support fair-trade products and make their cheese from local milk.
How gorgeous are these fresh farmed eggs? This is how nature intended eggs. There's no difference between white or brown (or sometimes green) eggs because in the inside they are all the same.
I also bought some drinks from Simpson Spring Co. I read online that the coffee soda was awesome so I had to try! I've never even heard of coffee soda. Have you?
I loved all my goodies. I can't wait to discover more vendors next time!
If you live in the South Shore area, the Winter Farmer's Market is open from 10 - 2 on Saturdays.

I love farmer's markets!
ReplyDeleteLady Love...I was expecting to see my face on your post...Thank you!!! We love going to our local farmers market, but this year are planning on raising our own chickens and planting a garden. I can't wait to share!!
ReplyDeleteI really want to find a local farmers market around my city, but haven't spotted one yet. I know its gotta be here somewhere! :) Love all your purchases! That cupcake looks to die for!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute place! I might have to take a trip out to a winter market. I love them!
ReplyDeleteOhhh yum! I love artisan pasta, and all those sweets look amazing!!! I need to see if there's a winter farmer's market somewhere near me!
ReplyDeleteMy parents raise chicken and sell the eggs. I'm a weirdo because I'll only eat store-bought eggs.
ReplyDeleteI love farmer's markets too! This one looks great. Have you been to Ward's Berry Farm in Sharon (on Foxboro line)? It is great is the warmer weather. Strawberry picking, pumpkin picking, hay rides, goats and other animals and a little market inside. I like it b/c it is small and a bit less crowded than the big farms especially in the fall.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, on my blog. It means so much, you have no idea. Thank you once again.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you totally made me hungry with this post! : ) Dinner time...
ReplyDeleteI definitely like to support our local markets too. I think thats great that you do that!
