Clean Eating Tuna Salad

Tuna Salad was one of my favorite childhood lunches. My Grammy would cut them into four perfectly crustless trianges. As I have gotten into clean eating I realized how bad mayo is for me, but I also learned what a great sub avocado is for mayo!  This recipe serves one, but you can easily adjust it for as many people as you need.

  • 1 pouch tuna
  • 1/2 ripe avocado, mashed (you can use 1/4 but I enjoy my tuna salad on the creamy side)
  • 1 teaspoon stoneground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • carrots (chopped if you want to mix it in, shredded if you want it on top)

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl (except for the carrots if you want them on top)
  2. Spread on Ezekiel or your favorite bread
  3. Top with carrots
  4. Enjoy!
Have you ever substituted avocado for mayo?

  • I just made this tonight. This is just my second time using an avocado. I’m new with them and am really liking the taste and creamyness they seem to add to my sandwiches. I really enjoyed my tuna sandwich using it instead of mayo. I wanted a tish more punch to it for next time … any ideas?

    • Maybe try adding a splash of vinegar or some horseradish.

    • You can always add cayenne, parsley, or cilantro. I love adding spice to it. Sometimes I use it as a base for a melt. You can always add more mustard or choose your favorite 🙂

    • Thank you. I’ll definitely try some of those. 🙂
