I’ve Ended My Relationship

I had to.  I just had this feeling things weren’t working out.  The feeling has been gnawing at me for a while now.  I needed to own it 100% and I wasn’t.

Don’t worry I’m not talking about my marriage.  That is still going strong!

I’m talking about my relationship with Blogger.  I ended it.  I was hearing so many horror stories about Blogger doing whatever they wanted to your blog.  Why?  Because they could.

After months and months of contemplating switching to WordPress I finally did it.  I was trying to do-it-myself for a while.  I purchased hosting through BlueHost and the Genesis Framework, but I hit a road block.  After a while I just didn’t know what to do.  At all.

Luckily, Lisette came to my rescue.  She knew I didn’t want her typical migration package.  I like to do things myself, but I couldn’t do it all.  I designed my blog and wanted to keep my design.  I worked on it for a long time and wasn’t ready to change it.  I just made it less than a month ago!  Plus, I was fully capable of transferring my own sidebar and header.  I wasn’t capable of fixing coding errors and correctly transferring all of my posts.  A lot of my comments didn’t transfer over but that is an issue with Disqus not Lisette. She even fixed the errors being received from my Pinterest traffic.

Lisette was such a pleasure to work with.  She texted with me throughout the whole process letting me know what she was doing and why.  Hallelujah!  Now I truly own my own content.  If you are thinking about transferring to WordPress, I highly suggest hiring Lisette for your migration needs.

I feel like a new blogging fire is lit within me.  I have more motivation for blogging, and am loving all the plugins that come with WordPress.

What are your favorite WordPress plugins?!

I’m thinking of making the switch but still on the fence… this might just give me the extra push. Now to find the time to actually make it happen. And learn what I need to know, Oh man! Glad you’re loving the switch! Can’t wait to check out the differences.

I’ve seen so many people say that Lisette saved their blog during the switch! I’ve been putting it off, but the more I see things like this the more I know I need to get on it.

    • Andrea McCann

WordPress is amazing! And for people saying it’s expensive or hard- it’s not! It’s about $100 a year and depending on your host, they could transfer it for free

    • Andrea McCann

I have a lot to learn but I love it so far :)

I am going to use Lisette too! I love how yours turned out and it makes me even more excited about mine!

    • Andrea McCann

She’s great! You’ll love her, Kelly!

Blogger doing whatever they wanted to do with my blog was the reason I made the switch a few years ago. Went one day to login and my blog was gone. After some sleepless nights and numerous emails it was eventually brought back up and the next day I made the move to WordPress. I’m new here so I don’t know the difference but the layout and design is amazing!

My favorite plugin in is Widget Logic. If you do sponsored posts that require you not to have ads on that post page once you easily code the widget it automatically knows which blog categories to remove the ads from.

This is great to know I as I am on WordPress.com but am about to switch to .org for some more options, I’m glad you’re happy with them!

I know I’m a little late on this, but I am sooo glad I switched to a self-hosted WordPress. I did mine on my own with the help of some YouTube videos and after a few days of pulling my hair out, I finally got it together and I haven’t looked back. I miss some of the simple things about Blogger, but overall, I am glad I made the transition!

    • Andrea McCann

I’m loving the transition! Are you still loving it?

      • http://morgharpnich.com/ Morg Harp Nich

@andreamccann:disqus I am! Only sometimes I do get tired of the do-it-yourself way of everything, but when I take the time, I’m always happy with the results!
I love your site, though! It’s beautiful and it functions so well!
